Kentucky Deer Season Dates 2026-27
Kentucky runs one of the longest and most hunter-friendly deer seasons in the country, with archery open from early September into mid-January and a modern gun season that lands right on the rut. Here are the 2026-27 dates and how we build guided hunts around them.

The best weeks to hunt Kentucky whitetails
Opening archery week in early September is a summer-pattern hunt with velvet bucks on food. The first two weeks of November are the peak rut and the single most productive stretch of the year. Opening weekend of modern gun sees the most deer moving, and the late December muzzleloader season is the best value if you like cold-weather food-source hunting.
- Early September: velvet bucks on predictable food-plot patterns
- Nov. 1 to 14: peak rut, seeking and chasing, all-day sits
- Nov. 14 to 16: modern gun opener, highest deer movement of the year
- Dec. 12 to 20: late muzzleloader, cold-front food hunting
Bag limits and zones
Kentucky assigns each county to Zone 1 through Zone 4, which controls antlerless opportunity. Zone 1 counties are the most liberal. Statewide you may take one antlered deer per license year regardless of zone, so a mature-buck hunt is a one-shot decision, worth remembering when a 3½-year-old walks by on day one.
Booking a guided hunt around these dates
Our Kentucky guided deer hunts are built directly on this calendar: opening bow week, the November rut window, the early and late muzzleloader seasons, and a limited trophy tier during peak rut. Rut and gun-opener weeks are the first to sell out, usually a full season ahead.
