Cost guide

How much does a guided deer hunt cost?

A guided whitetail hunt in the Midwest runs roughly $2,500 to $8,000 depending on how much guiding you want, how long you hunt, and the caliber of buck the ground realistically produces. Here is what actually drives that number, with our own pricing as the example.

Typical price ranges in 2026

Hunt typeTypical rangeWhat you get
Self-guided land access$1,200, $2,000Property access, no lodging or guiding
Semi-guided$2,300, $3,200Lodging, hung stands, camera intel, no daily guide
Fully guided rut hunt$4,000, $5,500One-on-one guiding, lodging, meals, recovery
Trophy tier$7,000, $10,000Dedicated guide, exclusive ground, 150-class target

What drives the price up or down

  • Guide ratio: one-on-one costs more than one guide covering three hunters
  • Hunt length: most camps price in 3, 5, and 6-day blocks
  • Season window: peak rut and gun openers carry a premium
  • Age structure: ground that grows 150-class deer costs more to hold quiet
  • Lodging and meals: all-inclusive camps price higher than dry-camp access

Costs outfitters do not always list

Budget for your license and deer permits (roughly $260 to $340 depending on state), meat processing ($100 to $200), taxidermy if you are mounting ($700 and up for a shoulder mount), travel, and a guide gratuity of 10 to 15 percent for a good week. Watch for trophy fees, some outfitters charge by antler score after the fact. We do not.

Deposits and payment

Most outfitters hold dates with a 10 percent deposit and take the balance at camp. Ours works the same way: a 10 percent deposit online secures your week, the balance is due when you arrive, and deposits transfer to another week with 60 days' notice.

Getting the most for your money

If budget is the constraint, a semi-guided hunt on well-managed ground beats a fully guided hunt on marginal ground every time. If a specific caliber of buck is the goal, pay for the tier that actually holds those deer instead of hoping a general-access week produces one.
